In Monday’s annual Pink Out game against the visiting Essex Trojans, the Mathews High School varsity volleyball team pulled out a convincing 3-1 win.
Before the first serve, the Blue Devils remembered all those who lost their battles to cancer, and honored all those who have fought or are still fighting their battles.
The Blue Devils played a great first set. They got an early five-point lead but the Trojans caught up but Mathews still pulled out the 25-18 win. The second set was point-for-point. The Blue Devils could not get a handle and the Trojans won the second set, 25-21. The third set had the Trojans discouraged; the Blue Devils shut them down, winning 25-11. The fourth set had the fans on the edge of their seats. The Trojans had a new found momentum but the Blue Devils kept up the pressure and won, 25-20, to take the win.
Hailey Denkinger, Addy Lowe and Abigail Ramsey all had 100 percent serving. Denkinger also had the highest passing average with a 2.0 out of 3. Grayson Griffit...
