MHS girls beat Tigers, Rams, fall to Cavaliers

The Mathews High School varsity softball team picked up wins against King and Queen and Lafayette, and fell to the King William Cavaliers in recent action.
Last Wednesday, the MHS girls traveled to King and Queen, crushing the Tigers, 13-1. Lindsay Coons had a complete-game victory in the circle with six strikeouts. Contributing hitters included Marley Brock (triple, single), Emily Coons (two singles) and Lindsay Coons, Addy Lowe, Bentlea Lawrence, Addy Griffith and Hannah Davis, who contributed one single apiece.
On Friday, the MHS girls hosted King William, with the Cavaliers walking away with a 23-2 win. Brock was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and single. Griffith had a single; Mya Schroeder had a single and two RBIs.
On Monday, the MHS girls were back on the road, beating Lafayette in an offensive slugfest, 27-16. Mathews fell behind, 8-0, in the bottom of the first inning. Although the Mathews defense continued to struggle, the offense began to have much better appearances at...
