The Mathews High School girls’ basketball team had a busy week, with games against Charles City, Colonial Beach and King William. A highlight of the Lady Devils’ week was Tuesday’s 42-23 varsity win against the Cavaliers.
King William
Mathews hadn’t won a game against the Cavaliers in a long time, but that was all about to change on Tuesday night as the MHS varsity girls entered King William’s gym.
The first half was exciting for the Blue Devils. They played a press and slowed the ball getting down the court. They got fast breaks and many points scored from them. Mathews held a 21-10 halftime lead on the way to a 43-23 win. The top scorers of the game were Lindsay Coons and Grayson Griffith, both with 11 points, and Elizabeth Moore with 12 points.The JV game started off the night.
