MHS girls beat Indians, 38-22

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team posted a 38-22 win on the road Monday night against the Northumberland Indians. That win, as well as the JV squad’s victory Tuesday over visiting West Point, were the only highlights in recent action for the Lady Devils.
King William
Last Thursday, the MHS girls traveled to King William to take on the Lady Cavaliers. The JV Devils fought hard, taking an 11-9 lead into halftime before falling at the final buzzer, 29-26. Top scorer for Mathews was Elizabeth Moore with 13 points.
The varsity contest wasn’t as close as the Lady Cavaliers dominated from the start. By halftime, King William held a 30-15 lead. Mathews just couldn’t keep up with the Lady Cavaliers, who went on to win, 63-27. Top scorer of the game for the Devils was senior Zoe Camp with eight points.
