MHS girls beat Charles City, 3-0

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday, beating the Charles City Panthers in straight sets, 3-0.
The Blue Devils took an early lead in the opening set, only giving the ball away on small mistakes and winning, 25-18. In the second set, the Blue Devils got even better and didn’t give the Panthers many opportunities to score points and won, 25-15. In the third set, the Blue Devils put the ball away and won, 25-10, to complete the victory.
Kristin Blake, Addy Lowe, Kaitlyn Ball and Addison Griffith all had 100 percent serving rates. Nora Suthard served 11 aces. Grayson Griffith had the highest passing average with a 2.0 out of 3. Blake also had the highest hitting percentage with a .545.
Northumberland
Last Thursday, the Blue Devils traveled to Northumberland to face the Indians. Mathews fell in straight sets, 3-0. The first set was close, point-for-point until the Indians started to pull away to win, 25-19. The second set was scary...
