MHS forensics team advances to state meet

Five members of the Mathews High School forensics team will be advancing to Saturday’s state VHSL meet at Harrisonburg High School, after the MHS team placed third in Region A competition, which was held on March 5 at West Point.

At West Point High School, the MHS team swept the region in the duo interpretation categories. Rachel Byrd and Jamie Ramsey took first place in Humorous Duo Interpretation. Following suit, Aryah Hudgins and Jonah West took first place in Serious Duo Interpretation.

"I am very proud of my duo teams—working together on a single piece is an incredible challenge," said coach Kevin Hogge, "but sweeping the region is quite an achievement for these young people."

Additionally, Allison Scribe finished third in the region in Prose Interpretation, a category where students must interpret a scene from a published work, creating the scene and showing plot development.
