The Mathews High School boys’ indoor track team finished second out of 30 high schools from Virginia and North Carolina in Tuesday’s Lampert Timing Meet #7 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
As a team, the MHS boys compiled 71 points, second only to Norfolk Academy (84). The MHS girls placed 10th with 25 team points.
Donovan Forrest and the boys’ 4x400 relay team both took first-place finishes. Forrest won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13 seconds, while the relay team finished the race in 3:45.14. Both qualified for states, as well as Keith Taylor, who finished second in the triple jump (39’7”) and third in the long jump (20’2.5”).
Gavin Dustin was second in the high jump (5’10”). Adam Dustin was fourth in the high jump (5’6”) and third in the 55-meter hurdles (9.78 seconds). Jerell Johnson finished eighth in the 300-meter dash. Jon Jenkins finished fifth in the 3,200-meter run and Lincoln Williams was seventh. Seth James was seventh in the 1,600-meter run.
