The Mathews High School boys’ indoor track team placed second in Monday’s VHSL Class 1 Region A meet at the Boo Williams Sportsplex, while the MHS girls took fourth.
The Blue Devil boys ended the day with 152 team points, second to regional champ Lancaster, which amassed 183 points. For the girls, Mathews finished with 65 points, behind Lancaster (127 points), Rappahannock (93 points) and Northampton (72 points).

For the MHS boys, individual regional champions included Donovan Forrest, who placed first in both the 55-meter dash (6.82 seconds) and 55-meter hurdles (8.01 seconds); Keith Taylor, who won the long jump with a leap of 19’ even and triple jump at 41’0.5”; and Chance Higginbotham, who won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:37.01. The Blue Devil 4x400 relay team also won a regional championship, posting a time of 3:43.66.
