The Mathews High School boys’ varsity and JV basketball teams dropped games to Colonial Beach and Northumberland in recent action.
Colonial Beach
Mathews faced off against Colonial Beach on Friday, with the JV Devils falling, 20-17, in a hard-fought game. The Devils were never out of contention as both teams went on short runs. The Blue Devils and Drifters struggled to score the ball, with both defenses holding strong. Zay Altman led Mathews in scoring with seven points, while Stanley Ouma scored five.
Northumberland
The varsity Devils didn’t fare any better, falling to the Drifters, 64-41, after their trip to Westmoreland the night before was postponed. The first quarter was back and forth with the Blue Devils holding their own.
