MHS boys defeat Lancaster

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team bounced back with a strong win over the Lancaster Red Devils at Dream Fields in Lancaster on Tuesday night by a score of 7-2, after dropping the season’s first two games last week to the Essex Trojans and Northumberland Indians.
After a scoreless first two innings, Mathews got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning after the Blue Devils scored on a passed ball, and sophomore Mason Perry singled down the right field line to drive in a second run.
The Blue Devils opened up the close pitchers’ duel in the top of the sixth inning by scoring five runs on three hits to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Senior Colin Moore started the inning by drawing a walk, senior Christian Blue singled to drive in two more runs, and senior Jordyn Cosby drove in the final two runs of the inning with a deep fly ball to center field that resulted in a stand-up double.
