MHS boys beat Pointers in regular season finale

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team closed out its regular season on Friday night with a 75-60 win over the visiting West Point Pointers. The evening began with a celebration of seniors on the boys’ basketball and indoor track teams, and cheerleading.
The Pointers started strong, getting any shot they wanted on the floor, but Mathews began to score effectively. Tre Greene was fouled after a basket to open the game up for the Blue Devils. Both teams went back and forth, but Mathews trailed, 21-20, as the second quarter began.
Greene led Mathews in the opening quarter with seven points and did not let up in the second as he reached the free throw line three separate times, scoring another seven to give him 14 on the half. The Blue Devil defense struggled as West Point continued to keep a slight lead, until Jordyn Cosby began his rampage on the inside.
