MHS boys beat Essex, 12-2

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team picked up another win on Friday, beating the visiting Essex Trojans in convincing fashion, 12-2.
Junior Dawson Adams pitched excellently, allowing only two runs in five innings. Junior Aidan West led off for the Blue Devils, going 1-for-4 with a single in the fourth. Senior Richie Hogge went 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk in the first. Junior Will Jackson went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in the first and fifth innings.
Adams, the cleanup hitter, went 3-for-4 with three singles. Brady Wright went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double. Sophomore Noah Wright went 1-for-3 with a single in the first. Junior Ethan Hudgins went 1-for-2 with single in the first and drawing a walk in the fourth.
Mathews was scheduled to host Charles City on Wednesday. Today, the team travels to West Point for a 5 o’clock game against the Pointers. On Monday, Mathews hosts Washington and Lee, also at 5. The Devils will host Middlesex on Tuesday in a JV/var...
