MHS booters fall to Windsor, 9-1

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team lost a non-district game last Thursday to Windsor by a 9-1 margin, dropping the Blue Devils’ season record to 1-7 overall.

Mathews got off to a strong start. Captain Glenn Musgrove worked around the defense, sending a clear pass to sophomore P.J. Johnson, who scored the game’s first goal. Windsor, however, soon took advantage of the Devils’ lack of substitutes and jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead.

Keeper Landon Garrett had five saves. In the second half, Jack Vrooman took Garrett’s spot in goal, also racking up five saves. Windsor added four more goals in the second half to score the lopsided victory.

The Mathews High School jayvee soccer team picked up its first win of the season, as well as a tie, in recent action.
