MHS 4×800 relay team wins race at meet

The Mathews High School 4x800 relay team of Seth James, Adam Greve, Chance Higginbotham and Gavin Dustin placed first in their event at the Lampert Timing Indoor Track Meet on Dec. 10 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
The MHS boys completed the event with a time of 8:46.10, beating out second-place Catholic High School by more than four seconds. The win qualified the MHS relay team for states.
Higginbotham also won the boys’ 1600-meter finals with a time of 4:47.81 and Nora Suthard placed second in both the girls’ long jump (15’5”) and triple jump (32’9”). Keith Taylor, Jordan Sadeq, Lorena Carballo and Lincoln Williams also gave standout performances in the indoor track team’s meet.
Mathews was scheduled to return to the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton on Tuesday for one last meet of 2024, returning to action on Jan. 10.
