“Beginninglessness, Endlessness,” a solo show by metal sculpture artist John Latell, will open during April First Friday, which is being held from 6-8 p.m. next Friday, April 7, at Arts on Main in Gloucester. It is free and open to the public.
Latell’s work with metal is “a blend of variable nature, the creative impulse, and effort,” said a press release. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in sculpture, he worked in Pittsburgh, Pa., for more than a decade, building large-scale sculptures in steel mills, public spaces and galleries.
The artist also studied at Carlow College and was an early member of Pittsburgh’s Industrial Arts Co-op, which created the Carrie Deer. For the past 10 years, Latell has owned and operated Wicomico Forge, a metal art studio in Weems.
“The work he does is reflected in the patterns of the land and humanity’s efforts to harness them,” said the release.
Live music at the opening will be provided by Louis Vangieri of Williamsburg...
