Mervin K. “Boots” Hogge, 94, of Wicomico, died July 26, 2014 at his home with family at his side.
Mervin was born in Gloucester County to the late Norman and Mary Hogge. Mervin served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was retired from the Transportation Department at Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown. Mervin was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class and a member of the Achilles Masonic Lodge No. 281 AF&AM.
He was a true southern gentleman, loving and devoted to his family. His friendship was genuine and he was a man of great faith, integrity and compassion. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by parents, Norman F. and Mary V. Hogge; his wife, Mary June Hogge; sister, Mae Hogge; brothers, Marcellus Hogge, Norman Hogge, Marion L. Hogge, Mitchell Hogge and Delbert Hogge; and son-in-law, Carroll Foster.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia A. “Patsy” Foster, Dale Keith Hale and husband John, and Anita Starr Davis and husband Brian; son, Mervin Carlton Hogge and wife Debbie; grandchildren, Angela Pierce and husband David, Wade Foster, Christopher Hale and wife Jennifer, Brent Hogge, Ryan Hogge and wife Diana, Cory Davis and Eric Davis; great-grandchildren, Justin Pierce, Heather Pierce, Jasmine Hogge, Nicholas Hogge, Rebecca Foster, and Marie Foster, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Providence Baptist Church, Hayes. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
