Melvin to complete youth program at Werowocomoco

Samantha Melvin, a member of the Conservation Legacy Werowocomoco Youth Program, will be the seventh individual placement to have completed the program, according to an announcement from the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.
This program is a partnership with Conservation Legacy and Appalachian Conservation Corps, aimed at connecting Indigenous youth with service opportunities in the conservation field, using the Ancestral Lands model. Werowocomoco is an archaeological site located on the north side of the York River in Gloucester.
Melvin graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2022, where she studied history and historic preservation. While a student at UMW, she participated in a project that worked with King George County and the Patawomeck and Rappahannock tribes to create a recreational Native American History and Culture Trail.
