Melvin Lewis Fry Jr., affectionately known as Mel, passed away Sept. 23, 2011 at his home on Put-in Creek Road, Mathews.

Mel graduated from Mathews High School in 1976. For several years he was employed as a firefighter at Ft. Eustis and later at Ft. Story. Mel was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Pete and Marcia Fry; his two daughters, Jennifer and Brooke; two grandchildren, Haley and Hannah; the mother of his daughters, LaDonna Fry; two brothers, Mike and Mark, and their families.

Services were held at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews, on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. followed by burial at H. C. Smithers Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
