The Mathews Visitor Center bi-annually hosts its community cleanups, during which residents gather to pick up trash along the roadways of Mathews.
This year’s spring cleanup was canceled to prevent a group gathering in violation of the governor’s orders during the coronavirus pandemic, but MCVIC continues to encourage trash clean-ups by providing supplies to the community.
There has been a flurry of stay-at-home activities, said a press release, with residents picking up trash around the county, so MCVIC will be hosting a DIY cleanup campaign throughout May, or as long as supplies last.
MCVIC will provide trash bags, vests and nets for residents to have their own cleanups from home. Families can arrange to pick up a “family cleanup kit” at the Mathews Visitor Center (Sibley’s General Store) at 239 Main Street by emailing mathewsvisitorcenter.com. There will be separate pick-up and drop-off stations at the center. To arrange for a cleanup, go to visitmathews.com/cleanup.
