Mavis H. Greene of Gloucester, passed from this life on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2012, at the age of 71.

Mavis, a native of Gloucester County, was born Aug. 22, 1940 to the late Edward and Louise J. Haywood. She was retired from Eastern State Hospital after 30 years.

Mavis was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She spent most of her life caring for her children, parents, the many people she took care of each day at her job, and the love of her life, Ellis, her husband, who preceded her in death in 2009.

She always had a smile and an accepting way, giving all a sense of confidence and the feeling of her “loving hand.” She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Rickey West, Teresa Smith and husband Alfred, Donnie Ray West and wife Donna, Brian Greene and wife Cindy; nine grandchildren, Garris, Ricky, Lisa, Donnie Ray Jr., Luke, Nicole, Catherine, Courtnie and Briana, and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Richard Croxton will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
