The Mathews High School varsity and JV volleyball teams dropped a pair of Tidewater District contests this past week, falling in straight sets on the road to West Point last Thursday and losing to the visiting Middlesex Chargers on Tuesday night. Here, Mathews senior Sarah Ashbaugh (#5) blocks a shot from a Middlesex player in Tuesday’s varsity contest. Middlesex swept the Mathews varsity by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-11. The Lady Devils are scheduled to travel to Chester today to face the Carver College and Career Academy Wolverines in a varsity-only contest. On Monday, the varsity and JV teams will host Charles City.
