Mathews County TRIAD was presented with the Jim Gilmore Award for TRIAD Excellence during the 2024 Virginia TRIAD conference, held on Oct. 10 and 11 in Williamsburg.
The award was established and presented by Attorney General Jason Miyares to commemorate the 30th anniversary of TRIAD in Virginia, said Mathews TRIAD president Alice Stewart. The organization, which is a cooperative effort of law enforcement agencies, senior citizens, and senior organizations that focuses on reducing crimes against seniors, was established in 1994 by then-Attorney General Jim Gilmore.
Stewart said she had no idea that Mathews would be receiving the award and was shocked when it was announced. She said she had earlier participated in a roundtable discussion with five other organizations from across the state, who as a group were introduced to those present as “some of the most successful TRIAD organizations in Virginia.”
