Mathews supervisor withdraws suit against county

Mathews supervisor Dave Jones withdrew his defamation and malicious prosecution suit against Mathews County and former county employees Thomas Jenkins and Jamie Wilks on Friday just as the matter was set for a hearing in Gloucester Circuit Court. He also withdrew the suit in the name of his business, JB Property Development.
Jones said that he had told his attorney, Brent Bohannon, to drop all suits against Mathews County in July 2023, after mediation with the county that resulted in the county dropping its suit against him and paying him $22,112.46, the final 10 percent payment on a FEMA home elevation project that was the cause of the litigation.
“I won my mediation hands-down,” said Jones to presiding Judge William H. Shaw (Ret.). “When I won, I made the decision to move on. I felt, especially being a supervisor of Mathews County, that my intention was nothing but to set the record straight, and I did that.”
