Mathews runners dominate at home meet

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first overall with team scores of 22 and 28, respectively, at their Oct. 16 home meet at Beaverdam Park. The teams raced against Rappahannock and Middlesex high schools. Westmoreland raced its boys’ team, but ultimately forfeited.
Gavin Dustin placed first overall with a finishing time of 16:41, followed by Seth James in third place with a time of 17:16. Next for Mathews was Chance Higginbotham with a time of 18:05, followed by Jaxon McDonald (18:17), Zachary Salvadori (18:21), Adam Greve (18:42), Jon Jenkins (18:53), Samuel Miranda (19:00), Cole Christensen (JV) (19:56), Lincoln Williams (JV) (21:20), James Morgan (21:31), Marvin Ouma (JV) (21:39), and Stanley Ouma (24:38).
For the girls, Lauren Johnson finished first overall with a time of 21:29, followed by Elizabeth Moore in second place with a time of 21:32. Next for Mathews was Lorena Carballo and Paige Morris (JV) who both finished at 23:13, followed by Baylee B...
