The Mathews Rotary Club will hold its sixth annual Rockfish Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 8, with the weigh-in at Morningstar Marinas near Gwynn’s Island. The registration and raffle will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Piankatank Ruritan Club building; food and soft drinks will be available.
Registration is $150 for four anglers, $25 per additional. Prizes will be awarded to the heaviest fish ($3,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $700 for third place), and $100 each for the senior, youth and women’s divisions. The weigh-in will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Dec. 8.
Since 2005, the club has awarded over $13,000 in academic and vocational scholarships to Mathews High School graduates with the proceeds of this event. This is one of the largest fundraisers for the club; last year, $2,500 went into the club’s general fund solely because of the generosity of its sponsors.
