The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team picked up straight-set victories over Northern Neck opponents Essex and Lancaster last week.
The Lady Devils also competed in Saturday’s Endless Summer Tournament, moving up in a tougher division from last year to win only two of five matches.
Last Thursday, the MHS girls traveled to Essex for the second in a three-game away streak. After a slow start, the Devils soon picked up the pace. Essex played an excellent game against the Devils, digging up a lot of what their aggressive offense threw at them. In the end, the Devils prevailed three sets to none, 25-16, 25-17 and 26-24. There were no individual stats due to technical difficulty.
