Mathews Plog-a-Thon to be held March 19

The third annual Mathews Plog-a-Thon will be held along Mathews County roadways and shorelines from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, March 19.Plogging is the act of walking or jogging while picking up trash. A Facebook group, Mathews County Ploggers, was formed in March 2020 during the early days of the pandemic as a way to get fresh air and exercise while beautifying the county by cleaning up roadside trash. This is an anniversary celebration of the Facebook group’s formation.
To join this year’s Plog-a-Thon, participants should choose a roadside or area to clean up on Sunday. It can be a ditch in front of a home or a stretch of road or a shoreline. Participants are asked to wear bright clothing and gloves. A trash grabber is helpful. Trash bags must be disposed of by the plogger. Recycling any found aluminum is encouraged.
