Mathews native finishes Boston Marathon

Tammy Stoops, a 2001 graduate of Mathews High School, ran this year’s Boston Marathon on April 17 and completed the race with a time of 4:27:01.
With the help of the Mathews community and other fundraising events, Stoops was able to raise more than $7,500 for the Cardinal Cushing Center. By raising the money, she earned a spot to run the Boston Marathon.
“Growing up, to me the Boston Marathon was the crème de la crème of races,” said Stoops. “Back then, I never imagined I would run it. To be able to take part in this is a dream come true. Not only did I finish it, I was a couple minutes off from my personal best from a flat course in 2019. Even with the cold, rainy weather and the hills of Boston, to me this was the best race I ever ran.”
This race also ended her Abbott 6-star major marathon journey. To be inducted in the Abbott 6-Star Hall of Fame, Stoops not only needed to run the Boston Marathon, but also had to run the marathons in New York City (2017), Tokyo (2019), Berlin (2019),...
