An imagined conversation between Martha Washington and Abigail Adams will take place at a tea party and 18th century fashion show, 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, at Mathews Museum, Main Street.
“You may expect unlimited amounts of hot tea served with cream and sweeteners, accompanied by numerous types of savories and sweets,” event chair Cindy Roman said.
As a part of the afternoon’s activities, “Ladies Victorian” Marilyn Iglesias and Kim Forslund will be attired in period clothing, and will show how to wear such items as reticules, tussie-mussies, paletots, and chatelains complementing their hostess gowns, a release said.
Iglesias and Forslund met 20 years ago as docents in historical museums in Newport News. Their business grew from that mutual interest. Joining them will be Generals Thomas Mathews and Andrew Lewis, who will make special guest appearances as revolutionary gentlemen.
