Registration for the Mathews Marathon sponsored by the Mathews Outdoor Club closes in one week, on Thursday, Oct. 10.
The race will be held rain or shine on Oct. 19, and will only be delayed or canceled for severe weather, said club president Christine Johnson.
This is the fourth year for the local event, which includes the full 26.2-mile race, the half of 13.1, and the relay for teams of five to complete the marathon distance.
“This year, the event will begin one day early, with a free ‘carbo-load dinner’ for participants on Friday evening, hosted by Mathews Family YMCA,” Johnson said. YMCA volunteers will organize the packet pickup on Friday as well and racers will hang around for a spaghetti dinner in preparation for Saturday’s run.
