The Mathews Main Street Committee hosted a breakfast meeting last Thursday for Main Street business owners and others interested in the committee’s activities. It was held in the community building at Westville Landing near Hyco Corner.
Main Street Committee Chair Bette Dillehay said the committee wanted to keep the community abreast of upcoming activities, particularly the status of Phase 2 of the Main Street Enhancement project, which is now in the design phase, with construction expected to begin as soon as next year.
Mathews County Planning and Zoning Administrator James Knighton gave a presentation to those in attendance, handing out copies of the engineering design, which he said still needs to be finalized.
A “huge amount of work” is required before construction can begin, said Dillehay, including obtaining rights of way from property owners in the area that will be affected.
“It’s of great interest,” she said.
