The Mathews County Little League Coach Pitch Rising Stars team has had quite a summer. Once the regular season concluded, manager Dallas Wagner had put together a team to play in a pair of summer tournaments.
The Rumble at the River Coach Pitch Tournament (June 18-25) consisted of 10 District 15 teams and was hosted by Essex County. Over the course of a week, the boys faced two Essex teams, Richmond County and Lancaster. There were several days of rest between the four games, and Mathews triumphed over all four, bringing home the championship banner and trophies.
Two weeks later, the team was invited to play in the Northumberland Rising Stars tournament. This competition would be different, as they had played at least one game, every night for regular pool play, semis, and the championship.
