The Mathews Junior All-Star baseball team, winners of last month’s Little League District 15 championship, competed in the Virginia State Baseball Junior League Tournament at Big Stone Gap, making it all the way through pool play before falling on Tuesday morning in the first round of the single-elimination brackets.
The Mathews All-Stars posted wins over Alexandria (10-4) and Honaker (10-0) to advance to Tuesday’s game against Dumfries Triangle Quantico. In that game, Mathews jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before eventually falling to DTQ, 4-3.
