Mathews County is joining the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers this year in launching “Operation Green Light for Veterans,” an initiative designed to shine a light on the service of veterans.
The county will illuminate county buildings and offices green in October and through the week of Veterans Day (Nov. 7-13) to remind veterans and their families in the community that “we are here for them,” said a press release from the county administrator’s office.
The county is also encouraging individuals and businesses to join in the effort by changing one light bulb in the entryway of their house or business to a green bulb, said the release.
“By shining a green light, you let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported,” said the release.
While the event is focused on the week of Veterans Day, the office is encouraging individuals to continue to shine the light year-round.
