The Mathews High School crew held its home regatta on Saturday at Williams Wharf, hosting competitors from Gloucester, Granby, River City, Hickory, Princess Anne and Great Bridge. Twenty races were held; Mathews performed well with three boats taking first-place honors.
Winning boats included the Men’s Varsity 4x of Jaxon McDonald, Ray Hudgins, Bradley Murphy and Sam Tomcany; the Men’s Varsity 2x of McDonald and Tomcany and the Women’s Varsity 2x of Scarlet Johnson and Sydney Kollar.
The MHS Women’s Varsity 1x (Johnson), the Men’s Junior 2x (Hudgins and Murphy), and the Mixed Varsity 8 took silver, while the Men’s Varsity 1x (Bryce Clark) and Women’s Varsity 4x (Anna West, Milly Johnson, Liliana Humbles, and Lisa Zerbe) came in third in their races.
