The Mathews County Historical Society, Inc., recently conducted its 2021 annual meeting using a new COVID-19 friendly format. Information was sent to the membership via its Winter 2021 newsletter and all actions taken were accomplished through email or the postal service.
As well as approving the 2020 Annual Meeting minutes and the 2021 operating budget, elections were held for the 2021 officers, for the Board of Directors Class of 2023 and for a vacancy in the Class of 2022.
Reed Lawson returns for a second term as president; Martha W. McCartney is vice president. Trish Reed and Hunt Thompson retain their positions as secretary and treasurer, respectively. The new Class of 2023 is Linda Bradford, Tom Karow, Mary Pope and Nancy Twigg. Liz Bateman will fill the vacancy in the Class of 2022.
The society, which maintains Tompkins Cottage Museum as its headquarters, will open the Cottage and Thomas James Store Museum to the public on April 3, also opening day of Mathews Farmers’ Market. CO...
