Mathews High School carpentry students will be tackling a big … or rather, we should say, a tiny project in the coming year.
Wesley Robbins, the school’s new CTE carpentry teacher, discussed plans for his students to construct a Tiny House during Tuesday’s meeting of the Mathews County School Board, which was held in the Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School. CTE stands for Career and Technical Education.
The tiny house movement has gained in popularity in recent years, as more and more prospective homeowners look for low-cost, eco-friendly alternatives within the housing market. The trend has even spawned a series on HGTV, “Tiny House, Big Living.”
For his Tiny House project, Robbins’s 43 carpentry students will be looking to construct a home measuring 8’ by 24’, encompassing only 192 square feet.
