Mathews harriers take first at West Point

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed first last Tuesday, Oct. 1, at their last meet hosted by West Point High School.
Gavin Dustin finished first overall with a time of 17:44. Next for the Mathews boys was Seth James with a time of 18:15, followed by Adam Greve (18:48), Blake Hunley (19:06), Zachary Salvadori (19:29), Samuel Miranda (19:31), Ivar Golden (19:50), Jon Jenkins (20:00), Cole Christiansen (JV) (20:24), Marvin Ouma (JV) (22:13), James Morgan (22:21) and Lincoln Williams (JV) (22:31). The boys won with a team total of 26 points.
For the girls, Elizabeth Moore placed first overall with a time of 22:50, followed by Lauren Johnson in second with a time of 23:24. Next for Mathews was Lorena Carballo with a time of 24:00, followed by Paige Morris (JV) (24:12), Baylee Bell (24:19), Morgan Stearns (25:34), Jordan Sadeg (25:58) and Lyla Duff (26:25). The girls finished with a team total of 21 points.
