Last Wednesday’s blistering heat couldn’t stop the Blue Devil harriers from clinching another win, as the Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams advanced their records to 6-0.
The boys’ squad won with a low score of 19 followed by the host Lancaster Red Devils (44), King William (78) and Essex. The girls were also victorious, taking their meet by a close margin with a score of 33 followed by Lancaster (39), King William (51) and Essex (105).
Justin Adams led the boys’ team to victory again this week with a time of 18:16, edging out Lancaster’s Ronnie Cutler in the final stretch for first place. Following Adams was Tucker Blackwell (19:08, third overall), Sam Jasinski (19:17, fourth), Nick Brown (19:20, fifth) and Phillip Machen (19:30, sixth).
