Mathews harriers complete perfect season

The Mathews High School cross country teams finished their regular seasons with undefeated records—22-0 for the boys; 20-0 for the girls.

In last Wednesday’s final scheduled meet, the Blue Devils raced against Essex and Washington and Lee. The boys finished with a perfect score of 15, with the girls scoring 19 points to secure the victory.

Leading the boys was Kyle Slaughter with a time of 18:46, more than a minute ahead of his closest teammate Elisha Kane (19:46). Following Kane to support the perfect win were Nick Brown (19:50), Tucker Blackwell (20:04), Ricky Rutter (20:06) and Tommy Mayo (20:11). Jalen Thomas and Ryan Morgan also had good races with times of 21:33 and 21:54, respectively.
