The Mathews High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams came out on top at their away meet last Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Rappahannock Community College’s Glenns campus. The meet was hosted by Middlesex High School.
JV runner Lauren Johnson crossed the finish line first with a time of 25:20. In the official first-place spot was Adelle Hudgins with a time of 25:32, followed by Anna Raub in second with a time of 26:57 and Zoe Camp in third at 27:03.Next for Mathews was Melody Smith with a time of 28:49, followed by Jordan Sadeg (JV) (31:51), Katherine Murphy (32:01), Lilly Bane (32:15), Morgan Stearns (32:32), Lyla Duff (32:33) and Haley Hoell (38:37).
The Mathews girls finished with a team score of 18, followed by Lancaster with a team score of 43. Essex and Middlesex had to forfeit the meet because they did not have enough runners to compete officially.
