Mathews girls blank Essex in tennis, 9-0

The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team continues its successful season, sweeping Essex last Wednesday at home, 9-0.
The girls got the ball rolling with their doubles matches. The top-seeded duo of Elizabeth Ransone and Kate van Emmerik easily defeated their opponents, 8-0. Morgan Johnson and Ashley Hudgins also dominated at second seed with a score of 8-2. At number 3 doubles, Alexis Wells and Rachel Stewart won, 8-2.
The Lady Devils also showed their strength in singles play. At top seed, Ransone beat her opponent 8-2. Van Emmerik, Johnson and Hudgins all swept their matches, 8-0, in the #2, #3 and #4 spots. Wells won her match easily, 8-2, at fifth-seed singles. Stewart won her match effortlessly over her opponent, 8-1, at sixth seed to earn the sweep.
Mathews continued to dominate in exhibition play. Emma Wood and Katherine Ransone beat their opponents, 8-0, in a doubles match. Bella Silvus and Kathryn Bray were winning, 4-0, and Maddie Brown and Madelyn Johnson were also ...
