Mathews girls beat King and Queen

Both the Mathews High School jayvee and varsity volleyball teams eased their way to a victory over the visiting King and Queen Tigers last Thursday night.

With the win, the jayvee Devils improved to 3-0 in the Tidewater District, while the varsity girls improved to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the district as well.

This coming Tuesday, the Mathews High School volleyball program will hold its second annual Dig Pink event to raise money for breast cancer research.

 

During the game with Middlesex, the Lady Devils will be holding several raffles, selling breast cancer merchandise such as T-shirts and pink baked goods, and donating all the profits to breast cancer research.

Tuesday’s program will begin a 6 p.m. with the jayvee contest, with the varsity Devils scheduled to face the visiting Chargers around 7 o’clock.

Cancer survivors will be honored during the game, and the girls will be playing in honor and memory of friends and family who have faced the disease.
