At its April monthly meeting, Mathews Community Gardening Group, “Planters with a Purpose,” contributed the first of its member donations to Bette Dillehay, chair of the Mathews Main Street Committee a – Floral Basket Fund for the placement of hanging baskets along Mathews Main Street and around the historic Court Green.
“We are in full support of this important initiative enabling residents and the many visitors who come to the quaint village of Mathews to enjoy the colorful array of beautiful hanging floral baskets,” said Stan Grice, founding member, as he and Mary Rudisill, founding member and Master Gardener Emeritus, presented the group’s first donation check to Dillehay.
This first donation, in the amount of $150, was from one member. The committee is in its early stages of raising nearly $5,000 to cover the expense of creating 31 floral baskets and monthly maintenance fees.
