Mathews County Wetlands board approves number of requests

The Mathews County Wetlands Zoning Board approved a number of requests for shoreline improvements coming before the board during its Feb. 5 meeting, which was held in the historic courthouse.
James Taylor requested to grade 60 feet of backshore and install Flexamat and plant new marsh grass sprigs. The Flexamat will be held down by riprap. The project taking place on the East River was approved unanimously. 
George Fuller’s request was the next on the docket and was also approved unanimously. He sought to replace 70 feet of existing deteriorating jetty in the same footprint along the Kenney Creek shoreline. The Gwynn’s Island Estates Property Owners Association requested to construct 32 feet of bulkhead next to a community ramp along the Kibble Creek shoreline. Once again, the application received unanimous approval.
