A concrete sidewalk has already been poured to provide access to doors that will replace two windows in space formerly occupied by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, but that will soon house the Mathews Voter Registrar’s offices.
Mathews County Building Official Kevin Zoll has been busy since he was hired in March. Not long after his appointment to the position, the coronavirus pandemic shut everything down, but when county offices re-opened, Zoll was faced with the need to bring county buildings into compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.
The county’s administration building has been in need of attention for years, and Zoll said that two of the main things that need to be accomplished are installing new heating and air conditioning units to provide adequate fresh air intake that’s not possible with the existing wall-mounted units, and bringing the building into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
