he Mathews Spring Community Cleanup will be held this Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. This year’s spring cleanup coincides with Earth Day.
According to Kat Larkin, executive director of Mathews County Visitor and Information Center, there will be safety vests, bags and grabbers available for volunteers to use. There will also be coffee and snacks at the start of the day.“Hopefully we’ll have a good turnout,” said Larkin.
Several civic organizations, including the Mathews Outdoor Club, the Mathews County Ploggers, the Mathews Rotary Club and the Mathews Historical Society, have already signed up to volunteer for the morning.
Jan Towne of the Mathews Ploggers has recommended that Saturday’s volunteers focus on Routes 198 and 14.
At the end of the morning’s cleanup, there will be a pizza party for volunteers. “We just want to encourage people,” said Larkin.
Those who wish to volunteer do not need to participate the full four hours. “Come and do what you can,” said Larkin.
