Mathews Circuit Court receives grant to preserve records

The Mathews Circuit Court Clerk’s office has been awarded a $29,568 grant for local records preservation from the Library of Virginia Circuit Court Records Preservation Program.
The funds will be used to digitize deed books and indexes from 1985-2000 that are stored in the clerk’s office, according to Mathews Circuit Court Clerk Elizabeth Brown, who applied for the funding.
“We’re very excited,” said Brown. “These records are the history of our county. We have an obligation to make sure that they are available for future generations and accessible to all citizens.”
The CCRP is a collaborative effort between the Library of Virginia and the Virginia Court Clerks Association, said the release. Funded through a $3.50 portion of the clerk’s recordation fee, the CCRP provides resources to help preserve and make accessible permanent circuit court records stored in the commonwealth’s 120 circuit courts and at the Library of Virginia.
