Mathews Christmas Store set to serve 600

The Mathews Christmas Store will be held Dec. 9 and 10 in the YMCA/Boys and Girls Club gymnasium.
The store has been underway for more than 40 years to provide support for Mathews County families in need. A press release said this year’s store is anticipated to serve more than 600 residents, both adults and children.
Participants are able to shop at no cost for brand-new housewares, small electronics, linens, toys and bikes, clothing, personal products, beauty products and holiday decorations. These items have been donated, or purchased with cash donations, given by individuals, civic groups, churches and businesses. These donors and other supporting organizations work with the Mathews County Department of Social Services to produce the store.
Bernadette La Casse is the chair. Donations are being taken through Nov. 30.
