Skyy Blue Coffee House & Gallery, located on Church Street in Mathews, held a grand opening celebration with an artist exhibit and wine tasting on July 14.
That day was selected for the grand opening, Tammye Van Clief said, because a featured artist at the gallery right now, Deborah Jaouen of Gloucester, is of French heritage and July 14 is celebrated in that country as Bastille Day.
Van Clief said the new coffee house and gallery are operated by Potatoe Neck Corporation, whose principal owners are she and her husband, Court. They also own the adjacent The White Dog Inn, which features a bed and breakfast and restaurant, along with the outside Portside Deck.
"We wanted a Bohemian feel," Van Clief said of the new establishment. The coffee shop offers all types of coffee and coffee drinks, with Italian Roast and Rain Forest-certified coffees among those offered.
